How to install front licence bracket?

My '70T has lived its life in states that don't require a front license. Not so here in Ontario. I went to install a bracket this morning only to find that the mounting location point is of double wall construction. If I drill holes in the front valence, I will be unable to attach the nuts to the backside of the mounting bolts. I took off the hood latch mechanism thinking that would provide access into the inner wall cavity, but it did not. What's the solution? Surely not self tapping screws? Here's a similar installation on the bumper type of my car:

There is a proper front license bracket, and that isn't it. Try Stoddards, Aasse, Sierra Madra, for the correct bracket.

Thanks Ed. That pic was meant only to show the type of bumper on my '70T and not the bracket I am using. Here is the bracket I am trying to install, that I purchased from Sierra Madre. How do I get to the nuts inside the double wall construction of the front valence?

Brent, if you are going to use this bracket for the front, it incorrect also, this is used for the rear.

The front braket ref number is this one

To install it you will have to unmount the front bumper.

San. Thank you. I am aware of that style of license bracket that is designed specifically for the front, but I don't see it on many cars? Maybe 1 in 20? That's why I didn't buy it. Even so, that bracket would present me with the same problem I am trying to solve, which is how do I fasten the nuts on the mounting bolts, given the double wall construction of the front valence to which the bracket (any bracket design) mounts and the blind cavity?

I don't remember that the front bumper IS double wall where the official brackets mount. It is hard to get your hand up there however, so use riv-nuts , then there is no need for a nut on the backside.

    ^^^^+1 on what Ed said.

If you get the correct mounting bracket, you'll have a number of options on the licence plate itself to pickup, which in turn will allow you to clear the center section that you're having problems with at the moment.

Thanks for the replies. Did some more searching and found this style of bracket along with the mounting hardware. Looks like self tapping screws are intended to hold the bracket to the bumper valence. Can that be true?

The brackets weigh nothing, sheet metal screws are more than enough to hold it. It is also how the dealers mounted the bracket/ plates. However,If I were going to mount them, I would use Riv-nuts. Drill the holes, paint the bare metal, wait for the paint to dry, insert riv-nut, bolt on.

Hmm, Rivnuts? You learn something new every day. Thanks Ed and Rob! Sounds like the preferred solution.
