Transmission oil leak through the selector fork

Seems like I may have a leak on my '72 915 transmission. A day after the first long drive since I owned the car (250 miles in a day), I found a half a cup sized puddle of transmission oil under the box. Not 100% sure yet whether it is coming from the gear selector or inside where the transmission mates to the engine. The transmission has not leaked before and doesn't leak after short trips or when standing in the garage.

Is it possible to replace the selector fork seal without pulling the transmission and engine out?

if the oil puddle was between where the engine and trans mate it is probably the main shaft seal, which if your trans hasn't been modified, requires a trans disassembly to re-seal. Gled
