    Engine number help. 901/02

I have been given an engine number that is a bit of a curveball. It is a Magnesium, not aluminium 901/ 02 engine. Engine number:901283. Also marked, 55/93. This is all the detail I have at the moment.

Has anyone come across anything like this before ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Dave

I'd need to see photos. 901283 was not a mag case engine, nor was it a 901/02. I would be very suspicious if you have no further info.

That number would be for a 65 engine with type # 901/01. Something is very fishy!

Seems to be a "reprinted" serial number. Do you have any picture.

On alu case serial number are on the rear side, on mag case, serial is on the right side.

Here is what I have. communication or photography is not his strong point. I would appreciate some opinion from the board.

A later (68) S case that has been restamped (or given) an earlier number (BTW the font's of the serial number are not very Porsche ..).

I agree, this is build 15593, so a 901/02 case where the original serial would have been near 4081450 or higher. It is too bad the original # has been lost.
