    Muffler Strap Finish

I am detailing my stock, 1971 911S muffler -- what is the correct finish that should be on the muffler clamps? Pictures of detailed mufflers would be especially helpful. Thanks in advance, Bob

I polished mine but I know that's not correct.

I'm also interested in the correct color.

    Bob,
The straps should be painted the same color as the muffler.

Is that true through 73 too Brad

I always thought the later ones were zinc/gold plated but would love confirmation

Thanks for the answer, Brad. Any pictures of concours cars from the rear?

    Hi Guys,

Here is a picture from what looks to be 1974. Straps painted, heat exchangers painted. Odd, but muffler not painted.

    Thanks - Brad

Search for this : Porsche Factory Pictures September 1971 . Straps are painted as muffler . '73's are the same way . '74 - no paint on muffler or straps on a friends car with 15,000 original miles .

Not odd at all, as the muffler is stainless steel and would not require paint. The picture of the '74 assembly line shows exactly how my '74 was delivered from the Factory, stainless muffler and painted straps.

    To redcar and all,

I've been corrected buy one of our members that has done some pretty exhaustive research on this and I'm convinced that my remark of Cad #2 was incorrect in more than one way. The replacement straps you can get from the dealer today are a goldish color that is probably a zinc process...

However he has found the straps 'in period' for our cars were infact panted a dull grey....

Don't want to steer anyone in the wrong direction... With apologizes I'll remove my previous response....
