    ALL of the fuel lines!

    Hello All,

I need to know what size diameter(s) of fuel line, what type (clear, braided rubber, smooth rubber), and how maybe much of each to buy for a 1973 911S. Does anyone have a list handy and/or a schematic? I would like to replace all of the rubber/clear plastic lines in the front of the car and all of them in the back (including the cold-start lines on the throttle bodies).

I've noticed Partsklassik sells the OEM style cloth braided fuel hose. Is that the best (only?) place to buy this stuff? Also, I don't think you can get the special little clamps for the cold-start lines anymore... anyone know of an alternative?

I'm planning on putting a lot of miles on the car this year and just want to be safe about it. Last time I drove the car, I was getting a wiff or two of gas (windows and wing windows open).

    Thanks in advance, Guys/Gals.

Brad Davis on this board sells the correct fuel line from Germany. He probably knows where to buy the special little clamps too.

    Good luck.

From the 1972-73 Factory Parts Catalog the following fuel resistant PVC tubing is required:
ID in mm x OD in mm x length in mm
    9 x 12 x 140
    9 x 12 x 210 (2 pieces)
    9 x 12 x 270
    9 x 12 x 470
    15 x 21 x 220
    15 x 21 x 600
    the 9 x 12 should map to 3/8" x 1/2" McMaster-Carr 5552K27
    and the 15 x 21 should map to 1/2" x 5/8" McMaster-Carr 5552K28 (this PVC stretches quite a bit).

Be careful with the plastic tees and fittings; they may be NLA.

    McMaster-Carr is 5187K75 yellow PVC 1/2" I.D.X 5/8 O.D. and 5187K44 5/16 I.D. X 7/16 O.D. gas usage rated

The little clamps on the stacks are Oetiker clamps and they are available

"the rubber/clear plastic lines in the front of the car" must be rated for fuel vapor - regular PVC cannot be (safely) used. You could use actual fuel hose if you wanted (if you wanted to be "incorrect"). Check all the tanks for cracking - pressure testing is wise.

Are you planning to replace the actual fuel hoses also? If so, do not forget the hose up under the front pan. Fuel hose needs to be rated for ethanol mixtures and for whatever pressures you have (carb vs. MFI). IIRC, SAE J30R9 is one spec. but I don't know if it is adequate for MFI pressures.

Use clamps that will not cut into the fuel hose. This can lead to a horrible fire that will kill or maim you, your loved ones, and even worse, damage the patina on your Porsche. IIRC, ABA clamps or Norma will work well.

If Brad Davis is the guy who posts as BoxsterGT, he will have everything done up perfectly for you.

Here's an article I wrote last year about hoses and clamps.

Thank you all very much for the help so far! I have contacted Mr. Davis and will order the lines from him along with the clamps. Very nice gentleman and replied quickly. Now I just need to figure out how much I need of each of the lines. hmmmm

David - I am assuming the last number in your list for each line is the length in millimeters or centimeters?
