    911 Engine What year?

I have a complete 911 engine 900484 that came out of a 1969 modified 912. I am trying to figure out if it is for a 1965 model year or a 1966 model year any info would be helpful.

You you have a very early 901/01 engine fitted in 911 cars up until March 1966 when Weber carbs replaced Solexs. Chances are good that it was originally fitted in a 65 model. Hope that helps

Very early 65 (late Jan-early Feb). Does it still have Solexes?

Still creme de la creme Dirk. I hope you find its original mate. If you do, you can surely purchase a hot rod motor for the 912. There are always a few guys looking for early motors for their '65s

The little spec booklet gives the date of the last Solex-carbureted engine as 21 February 1966 (engine # 903910). Other unique features of the earliest engines are center lubricated camshafts (used up to engine #903069) and forged steel rocker arms.

My guess is engine #900484 was manufactured in the first week of January 1965. The nearest match to that engine number that I've recorded from forums is 900469, which is associated with chassis #300411.

If you haven't heard from a couple well known builders/restorers yet, expect to get PMs.

Well considering that he posted 3 different places about the motor with almost no replies for a day or two I would say his inbox is just about full
