Is sand blasting brake rotors Ok?

Would like to clean rotors up, is sand blasting OK or is the blasting to harsh on the pad surface?

    Is there another viable option?

    Thank you for your opinions.

    Regards,
    Mike

This shouldn't be a problem if you clean them carefully. I would sandblast them and then hit the disc surface with some 180 paper on a rotary sander to get some random scratches. You don't want to remove any material. You just want to scratch the surface. This helps prevent squeal.

Then scrub them in hot soap and water. Finish this up with a brake clean rinse. When you can wipe the surface with a paper towel and the towel remains clean you're done. Cleanliness is the key here.

    More brake rotor/disc nonsense here.

Thanks Clyde and Richard for your help. Just want to be sure I won't damage the rotors.

I'd soda blast them to keep the tooth from the media blasting down. Otherwise, you are going to smoke your pads.

Just go out and put your brakes on. One or two stops and your rotors will be shiny bright.
