    Gas tank problem

my 72' gas tank needs cleaning after 15 yrs of setting. it also has a leak/hole at the seam.
is it best to dip and weld or buy a new gas tank. and where do you buy a tank..new or used?
    thank you, gary

considering the possible consequences I would put a new tank in. I know many here would repair, and that might work ok, it's the "might" I'm not crazy about.

There's a place in the Atlanta area if you are nearby that will recoat the tank with a red substance that works well; Sims. If not, try to find a place that uses the red coating material. Regarding new tanks, my understanding is that they don't fit that well.

Just resealed mine this weekend. Took the sender out to get a good look in there and not too bad. Did the POR 15 thing. Cleaned, etched and sealed. Looks like brand new in there now. Gonna let it sit for a week before filling with gas.

I bought a tank from Pelican for my '71. It got dipped and turned out looking like swiss cheese. That's what 30 years of sitting will do I guess! I will let you know how mine fits or if I have any issues when I go to install it.
