    Early Porsche hood crest

Does anyone know a source for a correct early Porsche hood crest (orange and black)? Mine has the burgandy and black later crest.

Help! I can't get the early Crest to seat correctly. Does anyone know any tricks here? I heard you boil the rubber and use a tooth pick to get the rubber to seat to the crest. I guess the backs are self tapping and you use a 8MM socket on them? Also, the price has gone up to $65 from your $28 back in 2001.

I have had several new orange bar crests and only on one of them did the rubber fit correctly. However, the pins broke off the back and dumped the badge out on the highway somehwere within the first month it was on the car.

For the rest, I had to get creative. One trick I used was to install the badge with a piece of sandpaper behind it on all sides (gritty side up!!). I used the sandpaper to grip the rubber seal as I tightened the speed nut. So, As I tightened down the nuts, I gently pulled out the sandpaper and it pulled the seal out with it. It was slow, but it eventually worked. The key is to pull the seal out and tighten the nut down so that once tightetned, the seal stays in place.

p.s. I have a new unopened badge I will sell for $55 shipped, pm me if interested. It either came form Stoddard or Sierra madre (I cant recall which).

An expert body shop guy showed me his trick, he cuts a slit almost to the edge of each of the points (three) in the gasket backing. That allows for a little more stretch to help the gasket stay on the emblem edge.
