68 decklid Q. Any (previous) owners with an early 68 that can tell?

    Hi Guys,

I have a question regarding "what is the correct decklid for a 68 (model) T?".

According to Brett Johnson's authenticity guide was the
structural bar separating the two halves of the air intake under the grille
removed in the 1968 production, starting at chassis number:

    11800 379
    11805 122
    11810 290
    11820 368
    11830 260
    11850 118
    11855 030
    11860 107
    11870 093
    11880 064

I would like to get in touch with owners with a chassis number within +100 after the numbers mentioned above to find out if a car still could have been delivered with an old style rear decklid (not as in special order which would have been mentioned on the COA)?

    Thanks,

    Richard

    Engine lid center support bar

My '68 911 with chassis number 11830241 did not have the bar.

    Mike,

That is interesting that your car doesn't have it. It conflicts with Brett's information. Do you know whether your car still has the original rear decklid? BTW thanks for responding, Richard

I have 11805151 and no bar, I am in doubt whether I have an original rear deck.

Well, mine is 11805175, but as you know it is difficult to see what happened in the factory in later 67 early 68...things were in constant flux.

To answer your question though, I do not have the bar (my 67 does). And it is most definetely the original lid.

    Cheers,

    Richard,
Just to confuse you further. Attached is a picture of a decklid from a '68 912 that I used when I built my '67S Rally car. No bar. My original '67S decklid has the bar but I wanted a different look when I built the car into a rally car so I painted both lids...the original '67S decklid (if I ever return it to stock) and the '68 decklid for the race/rally look I wanted. One additional note. You'll notice that along with the "no bar" look of the '68 lid it also doesn't have the four additional grille attachment points that the '69 and later hoods have (I didn't cut them off...this is howthe decklid was built). I think this gives it a cleaner look (i.m.h.o.)
