Question What size wrench for Speedo Cable? 20mm?

I was making excellent progress removing the old cable until I discovered my largest wrench is an 18. What size do I need? Also, considering the tight quarters to reach the darned thing, should it have a pivoting head, or is there a better tool?

    Thx,

    The answer IS..... 27mm.

And which size MasterCrap open ended wrench, of all possible sizes, was Sears out of? Yes, you guessed it.

    Rick,
I think a 27mm wrench is also needed for the retaining nut on the early steering wheels. So the 27mm wrench may have other uses down the road....

Can you get an adjustable metric wrench on it?

Not on the steering wheel retainer nut. I tried, but the nut really needs to be torqued down so there is no looseness in the steering wheel mount.

Sorry to confuse. I meant using an adjustable wrench on the speedo cable connector.

RE: The steering wheel. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the steering wheel usually fits onto a taper on the end of the steering shaft (I haven't had if off for awhile). If so, all you need to do is "tighten" the nut.

When you refer to an adjustable wrench, are referring to something other than channel locks , vice grips , a pipe wrench or crescent wrench?

Because the working area is so terribly confined anything much bigger than an open ended wrench has little chance unless I want to leave teeth marks !

"Crescent" wrench. I was being a little sarcastic. This item shouldn't be tightened that much, but if accessibility is an issue, I'd vote for the correct tool to loosen it. The correct, one-time use wrench from Harbor Freight might work.

If you have some scrap metal and a rotary cutoff tool (Dremel or equiv.), you can also fabricate a one-off tool.

I thought that was pretty obvious when you specified a "metric" adjustable for the job, Sherwood!
