Connections for light in engine compartment

The art deco-ish little bullet of a light is mounted to the under-side of the engine lid, but don't know/figure out where the + and - wires connect. I read it should only activate when the running lights are on, and after lifting its door.

The only possibility I have found, and unsuccessfully tried is a small 2 wire harness running down the right side of then engine compartment coming from the firewall area, under the oil filter, ending (the male and female connectors) by one of the engine mounts.

    Thanks,

Self-bumping is shameful, in public, but someone must have one of these lights and know the connections.

I do not have one to look at, but take a look at the light in the Trunk and see how it is wired. I would think you have a similar setup in the rear. You need to find the switch and then you can trace the wires.

If it is like my license plate lights both the hot wire and the ground will be in the engine compartment somewhere in a two lead bundle.

I'm with Harry, don't have one in my car. But maybe it was wired in with the license plate lights somehow? I mean, would it matter if it was on while driving with the headlights on?

    Thanks Paul and Harry,

It would be quite easy to tie them into the license plate lites since I cannot locate any 'available' male and female connectors in the engine compartment. I would like the connections to be correct, but they can be well hidden so no one will know the difference.

    Thanks,
    Rick

I have an original engine compartment light in my '72. I am getting ready for my daughter's birthday party this morning, but will take a look at it this afternoon and post a picture.

    Rick,

I just took a look at the light and this should be a very straight forward installation. The light is wired into the passenger side license plate light. As Robert mentioned, if the harness is still available I think that would make the installation look like factory. Here are two photos showing the routing of the harness. Good luck.

    Reed,

The short 'harness' coming off the light and the right side license plate light makes perfect sense.

Thank you very much for the pics and the description.

To the garage!! Let there be light!
