    Moving shifter backward ?!

Does someone ever try to move the shifter back on a early 911 ; like the 911R to have a short and straight shifter ?? Have you also move back the handbrake lever ? Any comments on the job itself or on performance after ?

Moving the shift housing rearward is possible. Even an inch or so would make a difference for some. However, besides moving the housing opening and mount holes rearward, the shift tube must be shortened an equal amount.

    Nice...which R is that?

While this approach would be inappropriate for some one trying to maintain authenticity, and period correctness; I'm learning heavily towards putting a fabcar unit in the Homemade 911...after smoking a few valves due to a gooned shift. In my case, however, it wasn't the shifter's fault

But back on topic: moving the linkage straight back like that seems pretty straight forward (or is that "straight backward?" )

Did the R's have a straight shift lever? Someone enlighten me...

    Happy Holidays yawl...

Here is an R with normal shifter. As one-offs it is hard to tell what is correct. Easiest way is to bend stick backwards to be able to shift without moving more than arm.

PS. Pic seems to be too large, will try to fix and get back

I know that most of the R have a regular shifter ; was it a custom modification by the owner or a factory option ??

I also have problem to upload to show examples...

    Thanks, JD

Notice the straight handle ... essential for seat clearance in second (915) or 1st and 3rd (901).
