    Trivial, dumb, stupid question..(sorry!)

I'm undergoing the process of re-vitalizing my new '73T and I want to remove the heater and throttle knobs to polish them up a bit and touch up the white painted lettering (I know I need therapy).

I was just wondering how you remove them from the handles? I could try the brute force pull method but I have the feeling there is some trick to it. Anybody know?

    Thanks

I just gently pulled the red knob off of the lever on my 69 912 with a little rocking back and forth in the long direction. However, when I compared it to my 73 red knob, it looks like the 69 is some type of Bakelite composite type material and the 73 is 'real' plastic.

Not stupid or dumb...better to ask than to damage .

The red heater knob should unscrew and the black throttle knob needs to be tapped off. Try using a fork with tines that fit over the lever or something similiar and tap on that to remove the knob. The knob has a straight slotted hole and the lever has a pressed bend in it (sorry I can't describe it better for you).

The handbrake handle is glued on - more often than not you have to cut that off and buy a new one...

Just been through all this for a customer car in order to reburbish the handbrake/heater/throttle assy - looks fantastic too and well worth the effort .

    Merry Christmas,
