    Muffler strap color?

I'm curious if the muffler straps were matched color-wise to the actual muffler or not...I'm installing an OE muffler and would like to make sure I'm capturing the original look...currently running a black muffler w/ black straps (the way I got the car)- going back to good ol' gray...

    thanks...

    add-on question for the experts

In addition to the strap color, what was the factory color of a sport muffler.

    and was the hardware painted?

Thanks in advance for your help

The straps are stainless steel. I thought that they were always unpainted.

I worked many years in a Porsche dealer parts dept....

...and the ones I used to put on the shelf and sell were a dull gray (almost like primer) and matched the mufflers. Brian

VHT SP104 is very close to the color for the muffler, and really lasts if you prepare properly. I believe the straps were originally mild steel, like the mufflers, but superseded to stainless.

    VHT paint

I bought VHT gray from Performance products and actually read the label. It suggests using their primer before spraying.I had to order it from VHT in Scottsdale,Az. Their web site is PJ1.com and then click on VHT.After using the primer and paint, the engine and exhaust temperature cures the ceramic mix.I have been pleased with the look and have only a hundred miles on it,so have no long term observations.Check out the color. Some muffler straps must be mild steel since I yellow zinc plated a couple recently.
