    1970 911S restoration

I am restoring my 70 911S and am wondering if there is a book or any where I can see detailed pictures of under fenders and suspension to see what colors where and if the body under front fenders was ubdercoated and painted with or without the fenders in place. In other words would the fender bolts underneath be painted or the yellow zinc color. It would be nice to see detailed pictures if any one had any available.
    Thanks, Jule

You came to the right place. Although I don't have any, someone will. If you haven't bought Dr. Johnson's book, start there, although it is a bit short on picutres (and are all B&W to boot). Good luck!

You might know this already, by using the "Search" button on upper panel, you might find pics and older reports on restaurations too.
For period factory shots, Brian Longs Book "Porsche 911 the definite history" 63-71 part 1, is helpful.
And, of course, Peter Morgan's "Original Porsche 911" for general infos.

Thanks for the info. I have ordered the books, looked at pictures of the low mileage 911S and others that I could find.

I am wondering what sequence the factory put on fenders. It appears on my unmolested 79 turbo that fenders were attached, then undercoated and painted with the inside trunk bolts that hold carpet snaps placed after undercoating and painting, as they are still their yellow color. Is this the same sequence they used in 1970??
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jule

I was trying to locate the Porsche factory video on assembly, so you could see the order of the steps. I know someone has posted in the past. This unfortunately takes off after you steps but is still interesting.

    Alan,
That is quite an amazng restoration. I can't believe how quickly you work! I wish my projects went that fast and looked that good.
I have used wurth sks stoneguard for underbody, what wurth product are you using as it appears you get very close to the original finish. The stoneguard i am using doesn't quite get as coarse a finish, but is very close

    Thanks,
    Jule

    Hi Jule

The product is a sprayable sealer made by wurth. Other suppliers do a similar product. It is a applied with a special gun and gives as close to factory finish I have seen. On the targa I did the fuel tank, all inner wings, front tank support and outer slam panel, inside the trunk around the tank support and the engine bay.

    Will have used 17-19 tubes.

    Alan
