Many regard the 996 GT3 as one of the purest sports cars on the road. It is a true iteration of the original 1973 Carrera RS: lightweight, 380hp normally aspirated, tuned suspension, racing brakes…all this in a street-legal racecar. And, with only 700 units produced, it is sure to become a collector item. What is unique about this model is its race bred drivetrain (including dry sump system) and highly tuned coil over suspension. If you've wanted a modern collectible sports car, this is the one to get especially at its attractive price.

    This GT3 was nicely optioned:

    XCE Aluminum Console
    XSC Porsche Crest in Headrest
    X71 Aluminum Instrument Dials
    288 Headlight Washers
    571 Fog Tail Lamp
    573 Automatic Climate Control
    601 Litronic Headlights

The car includes both keys, books, and remaining factory warranty (4 year/50,000 miles)

It has always been serviced at a Porsche Dealer and has all the stamps in the books. Also, many of these cars have been tracked and seriously abused. This car has only seen light street driving. When it was purchased by the second owner, the dealer ran a DME test to ensure that it had not had the high RPM spikes that is very common on cars that have been tracked.

Tires and brakes appear to have been recently replaced.

If you’ve been thinking about a GT3 for a while, this is a great car at a great price. A 997 GT3 will be arriving shortly to replace this car, so this one is priced to sell quick.

All keys, books (with dealer service stamps), and records are included.

    Why?

Now that I bad mouthed the Tips.. I have to eat some humble pie and ask....

Everything I have seen about this car makes me think it is really nice. So, why hasn't someone stepped to the plate and bought this GT3? Or is teh market worse than I thought and it is still too high? I don't believe it quite made $70k on eBay either. I could be a buyer for one of these soon so I am most interested in educated opinions.
    Thanks

The new 997 GT3 is flooding the market with 996s (if you can call it that with a limited production car). I am hearing of cars changing hands in the $60Ks.

Actually, it sold and there was a large amount of interest. The market is still strong on these cars. I know the 997s are faster, handle better, etc., but I still wonder if the 996 GT3s are a little more visceral and pure. I haven't driven a 997 yet, and I wasn't really a big fan of the 996 cars either, but the 996 GT3 is just so pure and fun.

I think the true enthusiasts are now buying the 996 GT3s and similar to the 964 RS Americas, I think we will stop seeing these cars trade hands as much in the near future.

The new owner is very excited and once we finalize payment, he is planning on learning to drive at a local driving school and having fun with it.

One day, I will own one of these and I won't sell it!!

We had a discussion on this a while back when the 997 GT3 was first announced and it was my prediction 996 GT3s would hit the $60k mark, which it appears they must be, especially with dealers shopping them in the low $70s. They'll probably hold here for a while but I doubt they'll go up the same way the 993 TTs did.

Not surprising really when you can buy a good 2nd gen (2002+) 996 in the 30s now--also a good deal as its a lot of car for the money.

A GT3 will be my next daily driver when I get tired of my 993 Targa.
    Cheers,

    Steve
