    Radio installation faceplate question

Just getting around to installing a Frankfurt in my '73. The installation isn't a problem but getting the leatherette material to cover it neatly will be. Am I missing a plate that fits over the knob and dial openings or is there some other trick to it?

    What I have:

    What I'm shooting for:

    Thanks!

You are missing a piece of galvanized sheet metal that that is precisely cut to go around the bezel and knobs. The material is glued to the metal and the piece slides into the grooves in the dash. You then push the radio in from behind. I have one I've saved, for use as a template to make blanking plates etc. Copying someone's factory one would be the easiest route.

    Well,

I kluged one up out of sheet plastic. Took a while to fit it but I think it will do the trick.

Yes! Good job... de-improved back to barely audible mono specs! Another longhood proudly period again - and one more hack installed Alpine head unit relegated to the "I love the 80's" museum closet to ripen... right next to the whale tails and slant fenders!

Sure, 72s have their oil door... but WE 73s have the uber kewl "Fasten Seat Belt" light! Kinda makes me feel like I'm piloting a fighter jet, or at least a Concorde? Okay more like flying business class, but any aircraft relation is cool... right? Eat your hearts out '64 - '72 crowd!

Yeah Jared, 73's are cool, but they still dont have chrome accents. I agree with Mr914 - step away from the coffee.
