    914 Fog Lights

    914 Fogs

This is the newest addition to my dorm room; I grabbed these off Ebay. Unfortunately the first set was lost in shipping around the Christmas holiday. The seller held up and sent me a replacement set. How ever I have gotten one TN1/TN2 light with a dull corroded reflector and one very restorable TN-4.

My question is which light is more correct for my Porsche, year wise? If I went into the Porsche Dealer in ’72-73 and bought some 914 lights.

I have used the search function and I have not come up with any concrete answer. I believe that Soerik stated that TN-4’s were the OE Porsche light and TN1/TN2’s were Hella replacements? Can some one please set me straight. Thanks.

Andrew, The TN4 is the correct lense for the US. I have seen the TN1/TN2 lense only once on a 914 light that I suspected as original. The reflector was the same as you have only amber tinted. However, that wouldn't have been for the US. The TN4 lenses are available new through SUnset Porsche in Portland, Oregon for approx. $60/pair.

    Thanks for the response Michael,

The one fog is not just a TN1/TN2 lense; The reflector has a label on the rear that says TN2 and it is amber coated/tinted but just on the rear of the lense. I also did notice that the base where the attachment point is (on the inside of the housing), has a marking of TN1-TN2 where the other TN4 unit has markings of TN1-TN2 and then also TN4. Hmm, I must have gotten two random lights...

I have a related question as to which parts are still produced. For example the seals that seal the lenses to the front housings are gone and I am also going to need another reflector.

Maybe I will just buy another pair and hopefully have one good pair at the end.....

Andrew you just have two lights from slightly different timeframes. The greenish/amber tint on the back of the reflector is just a varnish that was used on the earliest reflectors. As for the mounts, same thing. As time went on the mounts were marked differently. These TN1/2/4 markings also show up on the Euro versions which used halogen reflectors. I haven't found a source for just the reflectors or the seals seperately. Send me an email at michaelfred@sbcglobal.net. I have a couple things you might be interested in.

    Cheers,
