MSD and tach ? for 66'

I'd like to try the MSD 6 and Pertrnix ignitor system in my 66'. Having just spent a fortune at Palo Alto Sp., I don't want to damage my tach. Is it a straight forward hook-up from the tach output on the MSD, or is a tach-adapter required? Thanks in advance.

To use any CD box the tach has to be converted......don't know the process.
That can be done by North Hollywood or Palo Alto.

I have a 7000 (red line) tach that has been converted and rebuit by North Hollywood a few years ago, but never used. Correct for my car is 7400. PM if interested.

Thanks for the reply. Having just received all of my instruments from Palo Alto, the thought of sending one back isn't exciting. Hopefuly someone knows of a tach converter or other external method to accomplish the job.

Hi again Jon, have a Radio Shack on the island? Here is what you are looking for, the circut will allow you to use an early tach with a CDI system. Should only cost you 5 bucks, maybe 10 if you want to get a PC board and box. Too bad you didn't live closer, I could get you in all sorts of trouble lol. Good luck Allan

LOL It's a generational thing, you grow up getting Heath electronics kits as a kid and these projects become very easy. Very different from the current plug and play generation. But anyone who can soder and connect the dots can do this, not very difficult.

Well I did assemble an early Heathkit am/fm radio way back when. I'll give it a shot. Wow, two good projects in a row. I'm on a roll. Thanks again!

North Hollywood will do this "inside" the tachometer so there are no signs of it. But, I do like the "kit" idea a lot!

Having just spent a small fortune on refurbishing all the instruments, I'm liking the idea as well.

    Hi,

Can anyone confirm when the tachs changed, ie) when they can not be used with a CDI. I ask as I fitted 2 69 cars with later CDI systems and also used the original tachs, feed from the positive side of the coil and both worked fine.
