    Sigla / Sekurit windshields

    OK - here's one for the concours guys ...

    How many on the list have original glass on their cars where the side glass is Sekurit & the front windshield is tinted Sigla?

    Anyone know why? - or simply tinted screens were supplied by Sigla? Late 70-80s I understand it was all Sekurit.

    Anyone got a 1975 911S as well as an "early 911" - can you confirm that original front windshield was Sigla?

    Last of all, is Sigla now owned by Pilkington (Australia) Glass?

    Reason - I need to find a concours correct front windshield for a customer's 911. He thought it should be Sekurit - but Stoddard & Dave MSroadrace tell me Sigla. I have no reason to doubt them but would like more info.

    My 67, although a 912, came with "coloured" glass....its a Sigla.

    I've got a 72T with a tinted original Sigla and the sides are Sekurit.
    When ordering your car you could order tinted glass as well.

    Thanks guys - that seems pretty conclusive.

    Now - anyone know about the Sigla /Pilkington arrangement?

    The plot thickens ...

    Thanks for your input guys - I have the info I need now.

    911s prior to 1984 were for the most part* supplied with Sekurit side glass & Sigla front windshields. Sekurit windshields appeared around 1984 & onwards.

    *bmendel - is it possible that the windshield of the 67 was replaced at some time? (if early 911s are anything like 356s - variations are possible - "whatever's on the shelf"!

    "Sigla" windshields are now produced by Pilkington & have both logos etched on the glass - one superimposed over the other.

    There are a couple (at least) members of this board who have stencils of the original Sigla markings so that these can be sand-blasted on the glass to satisfy the "needs to be like the original" crowd.

    one other thing to think about....

    USA model windshields were always laminated ,

    European windshields were tempered thru at least the 70s,
    you could often see piles of glass at the side of the road where a windshield exploded onto the driver

    Not fun when it happened to me !

    My 71 T had Sekurit all around, but I don't think it was tinted.
