Thread: Original fiberglass S front bumper?

    Original fiberglass S front bumper?

Is there any way to indentify an OEM fiberglass S front bumper?

I've got a fiberglass front S bumper that I took off my '71 T and it's a very nice piece. I know the S spoiler bumpers didn't appear until '72 so my bumper had been added to the car at some point after '71.

My S bumper has metal mounts glassed in and fits better than all other aftermarket glass bumpers that I've had my hands on. My guess is that it's also aftermarket but I'd like to see pics of a factory glass S bumper to compare to.

    Thanks for the help,

Wasn't the factory S bumper made of steel?

I think the earliest Factory S bumpers were made of fibreglass...

I know the '72 and '73 production 911 front 'S' spoilers are steel. The only fiberglass examples I'm aware of were after-market.
Is there a Porsche part number on that fiberglass spoiler?

    My understanding

It is my understanding that the EARLY 72's had fiberglass bumpers.

    '72S Fiberglass front spoiler

Another board member, Scylla, told me that only the first 200 or so 1972 911S had fiberglass spoilers as regular production equipment. After that, all were steel. Second hand knowledge only...

Does anyone have the link that 69Sman refers to in that thread?

It sounds like there were only ~600 or so '72 S models produced with the glass bumper.....so.....I'm pretty sure my bumper isn't one of them!

I asked him if he remembered the title, but he replied that he didn't.
I've searched a bit today with no success. Very interested to know
what the "real" ones look like, and if they're numbered in any way.

    Well, I stand corrected.
Very interesting tidbit. I still wonder what the part number is for the glass spoiler?
