gas tank replacement on 73 E

Don't know when I did it but I must have bottomed out bad enough to rupture the gas tank on my 73 911 E. What's the best option for repair. Should I replace the tank with a new one, a used one or fix the one I have?

I live in VA, any suggestions onwhere to get one for a 35 year old car. I imagine they are not very easy to ship. Lastly are they easy to install?

    Thanks in advance.

    Chris,

It is probably one of the easiest things to take off your 911, 3 Allen head bolts(one in front, one on each side) the gauge plug and the hoses...then the seal around the rim usually sticks but you can take a floor jack place under the tank..and place a board on it and lift up slowly and it will pop right up....yes a little bulky but not that heavy...be sure to install new fuel hoses
I have good used ones from a 73 and 71 if needed. I have never had one repaired can't tell you anything on that....there are aftermarket repo new ones too.

I've never tried to repair one, but either way, it has to come out. As you have already been advised, it's a great opportunity to replace the old fuel lines and have a look at your car from a whole other perspective. If the crack was large enough to drain all the fuel, or most of it, the worst part of the job is already over.
