    Renn, Wevo etc. aftermarket shifters

Hi, Just got my latest ESSES, inspirational issue. I thought I had done my last project car, now I'm looking again. I just finished my 73S and it's back on the road again after sitting for many years. More to the point, I thought I was happy with my new stock 915 until I read John G.'s 40 Year Fantasy article. His report on the Rennshift unit has me thinking and that's expensive usually. And, I keep vintage motoring in perspective, I have 356A's with 644's that seem primitive when I drive the S. The S feels like a modern car but the shifting is a bit notchy. I've seen Wevo and now Rennshift recommended since I've been back in the club. I had a factory short shift on a 73S years ago. The throws were shorter but still notchy. Anyone out there who has experience with this stuff how about some feedback for spirited street use only. Thanks, Steve Shea #2 early S reg.

    Steve,

Came up with this from a simple search of Rennshift...

    My comments are in there...

    Hope this helps,

    Cheers,

    One for WEVO...

    Steve,
I use a WEVO "Classic" in my vintage race car. Granted, this car goes nowhere near the street...but I just love the crisp, precision shifting the WEVO unit provides. Installed, the unit looks so "factory" it isn't funny...Stealthy in other words, I guess.

Yes, the WEVO is very pricey...but, when you think in terms of preserving an expensive race motor - it's pretty cheap insurance.

You should take a closer look at them - just as part of your discovery (due diligence) process. I bought this unit several years ago...when there just wasn't much else - besides an even more expensive FABCAR unit - out there. Now, you have more choices...enough where I don't think I'd even bother with any sort of short-shift (factory or otherwise) setup...

    Good luck on your project.
    cheers
    Thom

ps - if nothing else; ensure that you have fresh bushings, etc in your current linkage - that makes a huge difference right there.

I've got the Wevo in my street driven only '72 T Coupe and I absolutely love it! Short, precise, crisp shifts everytime.
    Cheers!
