    Outside Temp. Guage for 1971???

Does anybody know if an Outside Temperature Guage was available for the later 911s? I know they had them on the SWB 66-7 cars in the clock position, but I've never seen one for a later white/black guage face.

    John,

On a SWB 911 it was more likely to have the green faced outs.gauge (motometer) in the lower left corner of the dash (search old threads and you will find a picture, it's in the acc. manual as well). I think the clock meters were 912 only and were build by VDO as the rest of the gauges.
I have seen several white/ red/ black outside gauges but do not know till when they were officialy available (68 at least). If you find a gauge make sure it works.

The only 911 I've had with this gauge was a '66, and it was located to the left of the headlight switch on the dash. I don't know about the 912s or later LWB cars, though....

    I stand corrected.

Per Dr. Johnson book 1968 was last yr of this option. From 65-67 black face green lettering with 3 varieties 2 had celsius scales made by vdo and moto meter and 3rd by moto meter with fahrenheit scale. 68 lettering went white with same 3 options regard to scale and mfg. all of them function via a temp probe mounted on the inner front fender. the placement of the 60mm diameter gauge was to the left of the ignition switch. they were offered as an option on both 911 912

Milou that one on eBay was most likely not used in a Porsche. The acc. brochures mentions and shows outside temp. gauges while the one on eBay is an out and INside gauge. Also is the face plate slightly different from the original one's I have seen.

    Wink Only outside temp.....

Yes you're probably right! I looked into the accessories catalogues I have, and it only mentions outside temperature. On a 1968 911S "WagenKarte" I saw, it listed it as an option, so they were sold at least up to and including 1968.

I love the look. I guess they had to move the headlight switch to the right, nearer to the key lock, in order to make room for it on the lower dash. Is this correct?
