Thread: Valve stems for a 4.5" Fuchs?

Valve stems for a 4.5" Fuchs?

I presently run Khumos 165-15s with tubes on a set of unrestored 4.5" Fuchs. I recently had a blowout which naturally trashed the tire. Are there any tubeless tire valve stems that properly fit the 4.5" Fuchs without machining?

    Thanks!

I found some BBS metal valve stems sold by a BBS wheel dealer that worked pretty well for my deep 6's with hearts, probably a similar valve stem requirement to your 4.5"

The rubber stem that works well with deep sixes is
    TR-415.

I've been told by some well experienced and trusted sources that the TR415s are not a good idea without machining the valve stem hole

Like most questions asked, you'll get a range of answers
to this, but many people (myself included) have used the TR415 without issue.

    Alan,
We have used 415s since 72. The problem is, not all 415s are the same. The most used supplier went to a thinner necked version that falls through. If you can find any old stock or a off beat supplier then they work fine. We found them at NAPA and other auto parts stores not tire shops. They are harder to find each year, that is why we went to machining the inside flat and notch to accept the "New 415".
They still need some care installing correctly..

Thanks Harvey, that's good to know. I lucked into the correct
ones because I didn't know there are two different 415s.
Mine are like the one on the left.

    Harvey,

Thanks for the info. I'll check on NAPA and my tire guy.

I have a set of 4.5 Fuchs that you restored last year and modified to accept a valve stem. What is the diameter and angle of the machined borehole and the ID of the "lip?" This info. would help my machinist from having to engage in excessive thrashing about.

    Thanks!
