    AA or B 1st. Gear

    Hello All-

In the process of rebuilding the transmission in my 67 S. Curious if anyone had any experience using an AA or B 1st. gear for street use with a stock 67 S 2.0. Is the B too tall for a 2.0 liter?

Here is what I had in mind for ratios

    AA or B F M S ZA

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!
    Scott

I like AA - not too long, not too short...just right.

Have a '71 S with a 2.6L motor, 911/01 trans and B-H-O-U-Z gears. With 205/60-15 tires, the 'B' first gear is pretty tall, especially starting uphill. On a 2 liter car, I wouldn't recommend it - there has to be a better gear choice.

Previous owner who geared this box did so with the intent to turn 4K RPM at 80 mph in 5th, with even splits downward, hence the 'B' first gear.

    I use a "B" in my '65 and I love it.

I do 4000rpm at 80 in 5th with my AFMSX ratios in my 911 transaxle. Motor is a 2.7RS spec. I really like the short gears. The car is explosive in acceleration when the revs are above 4500 or so. I like the A first for the start/stop of street driving. The F second is short enough for even the tightest twisties. Third is nice, too.

I would say use the AA, as it is shorter than B. Unless you are road-racing. Willow Springs has some high-speed sweeping curves where you might want a taller 5th, 4th, and match the rest of the box from there so you have an active 1st that is just enough to get rolling.

The short gears are fun around the twisty curves.
