Mysterious Weber 40 IDA parts. ID?

    Carb geeks,

The washers/spacers pictured below, #1 and #2 were taken from set of '67 Italian Webers. #1 are brass and are more spacers than washers. Their appo. dimensions are OD 8.18mm; ID 6 mm and Thickness 2mm. Does anyone know what they are, where they go? I have a total of 12 and I am assuming 6/carb although I guess it is possible they all came off one carb.

The other, #2, is a thin metal washer, looks like 1/carburetor. The other numerous fiber/alu washers ..are not pictured..as there are many and I know where they go.

    Help appreciated. Thanks.

    And

    Carb freaks..

I think you're going to have to dig deep for the answer. As, I've just looked at an old "picture parts book" and the thick brass "washers" are nowhere to be seen (Now, yes!, I should have documented EVERY step with pics) but I know they came from the IDA's as I put all the parts in a glass jar as I took them apart (note the screws came from the air-cleaner "bottoms"..but the washer are way too big for those studs). MAYBE, could it be some 'over machining" in Italy at Weber and they go in some jet holes? (the thottle bodies are at Matt at Eurometrix so I can't see if they "washers" fit in jet holes. Still...HELP! Thanks.

    Allen,

They weren't some kind of "fix" for the throttle shafts were they not sure how far you dissassembled the carbs. My other guess would seals for under the pump nozzles.

    Washers

    Hi Allen,

They are not original parts for your Webers. Since you have 12 my guess is they were used under the nylox nuts that secure the funnels, but I don't know. They are not a fix for a machining error... the Italian castings were very well done.

The thin metal washer is not original either. You will get all of your sealing washers in your carb kit. You won't need the metal one.

    There seems to be

100% consensus from Matt and several other experts that these are NOT original to Webers. I'd think I would have noticed that they are too big to go on the top of the chrome stack studs, but it is true there are six of those per carb.

They sure do look like original Weber parts but the PO was a mechanic of sorts perhaps he thought there should be something like these under the nylocks and went to the hardware store and bought these little washers. Still weird. Thanks for the input.

I've seen these on my 67S (owned for 30+ years) and on several projects from the SWB cars. These are not on the Weber exploded parts drawing but are not unique to your carbs. They were between the hex nuts and the air horns, I don't use mine but I keep them as a curiosity.

    Wow

Is this list great or what! And yes, even experts can learn a thing or two. Thanks.

I currently have a pair of IDS's on my bench right now with a set on them, serial numbers 50 & 77 which would make this from a 1966 build year for the 67S.
