    ST flares

I know these have been a hot topic lately. I think I was one of the first to do an ST homage car and it was predicted that it would become the next hot commodity. Fiberglass flares have been available for quite some time but if you have ever installed these, you know that there are compromises. Steel is the only way to go if you want it to be perfect. Steel flares are available from Europe but they require extensive body work afterwards to make them blend well. TRE now has steel ones available too but there has been some issues with the thickness of the steel.

That brings us to my friend Joe... He runs a metal fabrication shop and really has a knack for old school sheet metal work. He has hand crafted a 911R steel tank for my '67 911 and several other projects for me over the years. When I asked him about reproducing ST flares, he said, "no problem." Well, it did take some time to master it but we finally have a finished product. All these flares were originally mocked off from fiberglass GT parts but then fine tuned ON my car so they exactly relicate the factory flares and will save lots of time/money in finish body work since they mould nicely to the standard body work. Every set made is mocked up on a standard chassis that Joe has in his shop. These are also made from thicker 19g sheet metal and can be supplied with the lips already rolled if desired.

So far, we have front and rear ST flares. Next will be rear RSR flares (fronts are the same as the ST). Prices have been set and I will post in the for sale section soon but I thought it would be interesting to hear feed back on any suggestions and guaging interest first.

Too bad these weren't available 6 months ago when I was converting my RS clone to an RSR bodied buggy.
I went with turbo flares instead because I wanted steel.

    These really look great.
Can't imagine the talent needed to "wheel" these into shape?

    Great work!!!

I totally agree. I regret doing my RSR in Fiberglass flares. They are not worth it in the long run.

I'd love to make my next project a ST clone (with steel flares) but only after my Lady 'E' gets back on the road this summer.
