    Shifter adjustment questions

During restoration of my 911S, a Rennshift shifter was installed, together with new bushings, clamps and coupler joint.

Even though shifting is far more precise, I seem to have an adjustment issue: going from the 2/3-plane (901 gearbox!) to the Rev/1-plane takes a horizontal travel of approx. 1 inch. Going from 2/3 to 4/5 gives a horizontal travel of max. 0.25 inch.

However, in the 2/3-plane, the shift lever is perfectly centered!

What can I do to get a symmetric horizontal travel between the three planes? Is it possible that the whole Rennshift assembly needs to be shifted to one side??

    Thank you for your suggestions!
    Keep up the speed!

none of the shifters I've come across have any ability to move around where they bolt to the car. what you describe sounds like a classic case of misadjustment of the pinch bolt. That being said, with a 901 box, the key is to have the shift from 1st to 2nd be almost a straight up movement, letting the spring guide you away from reverse. I'd try adjusting the pinch bolt, pretty easy process of putting the car in neutral, shifter all the way over in the 4/5 plane of neutral, removing the cover plate, loosen the pinch bolt and rotating the transmission side of the linkage, just a nudge (I'm guessing clockwise), tighten and test.

    glad to hear.

I've been in 915 hell for a while, did a bunch of upgrades to the '72 hotrod including a siene gate shifter, and did a bunch of driving.

last weekend hopped back into the very stock 'S' and really enjoyed the 901 again.....really is a treat to drive it like it was built to be driven.

and especially glad I could help
