    R&R the steering support tube

I need to remove the steering support tube to gain access to some surface rust. Does anyone care to share a good way to loosen and slide the lower universal joint up from the steering rack and more important, slide the upper u-joint down from the (upper) steering shaft? It looks like both u-joints and the intermediate shaft need to be removed to remove the steering support tube.

    Thanks!

It all has to come out, it is highly unlikely you can separate the parts individually. A '67 has splined shafts and joints that will are probably stuck together. These probably require a bench and a BFH or hydraulic jack. Be sure not to damage the 8G screws that hold everything together, and get yourself some replacement lock plates for the lower connection to the steering rack. You will also need to remove the steering wheel and loosen the clamp that holds the shaft. The good news is the uppermost steering shaft and the housing for the switches come out as a unit.
