    Quick change seat mounts

I'm talking to Stefan about mounting an Avus seat in my 74. I want the seat low, for tall passengers, and I'd like to be able to remove the seat easily for access behind it. Because it adds too much height, his hinged base is out.
I've been thinking about fabricating a base using two pins on the rear of the seat, oriented along the axis of the car, which would engage holes in something attached to the seat floor. At the front, two more pins would be attached to the seat and set so they would drop into "sockets" of some kind attached to the car. The front pins would be secured by cotter pins. Anyone seen anything along these lines? Any thoughts welcome. jim

You might consider something like the 914 arrangement that allows tilt & reach while having a very low installed height.

We fabricated a quick release mount for the passenger side of a tv use car. We used quick release pins- sometimes called pip pins, from the local aircraft supply store. They have them in various lengths and diameters

Do not depend on the pins for bearing the weight of the seat and occupant. The pins should be used in such a way that you can slide the seat foreward and pull the rear pins up and out, then slide the seat back to remove the front pins. We had 8 bushings machined so the pins slid thru tightly and limited fore/aft movement.

It takes a lot of time to get it right, but worthwhile as the stock 914 mountings are just on 3 points and very weak

Thanks Dave. You don't have a picture of that set up do you? I'm not finding it easy to visualize what you did. Jim
