    Chevron B34

Just came across this sad old race car rotting away in a locked compound next to a Malaysian petrol station on Monday.

I am informed it is a Chevron B34 racing car that was (unsuccessfully) campaigned by Amir Mokhtar in SE Asia in the 80's.

In my ignorance can anyone enlighten me about the B34, is this specific car of any particular interest and is it worth restoring.

    Thx

    Martin

    Thumbs up

    Martin,

Besides almost ALL Chevrons are worth restoring... the B34 happens to a very good one amongst very good ones......

Bernard Juchli (Jay Leno’s shop foreman) is killing’m in vintage out here on the West Coast in his 34

I saw Kiki Rosberg drive like the devil in the Atlantic race at Long Beach in his pink Excita 34 in ’76…

    A GREAT CAR…

    Here’s a nice one from Australia …….

Chuck, that is friggin' awesome! I love that pic. Back in that period when Gilles Villenueve was in Atlantic, a new March owner was talking to him about driving style and what worked in the Atlantic. Gilles said, "that's easy, just drive it on three wheels!"

Thanks for the info Chuck, looks like I may need to organise another trip to KL very soon, even if it's corroded to hell it would make a nice paperweight.

From what I can find H.M. Amir's B34 was an ex Opert? car (chassis nr 34-76-20) - next challenge to try to track down the owner and get a little closer for some decent photographs.

    Thx Chuck,

Looks like I have a little research to do - got my info from this thread on the 81 Shah Alam Grand Prix results:

    http://www.oldracingcars.com/results...hp?RaceID=J81Q

It would appear that José "Pocholo" Ramirez was running Nr 21 and came in 8th whilst Amir Mohktar in Nr 20 broke down ahead of Tiff Needell in a March 782.

    Kinda like this painting:

Apparently there were at least three B34s that made their way to SE Asia, all ex Opert cars:

34-76-20 went to Del Schloemer by 1979 [don't know where it was 1977-78] then to Amir Mokhtar in early 80s
34-76-21 went to Pocholo Ramirez in 1977 and he still had it in 1983
34-76-25 went to Jov Marcello, 1977 then to Narcisco de la Merced and Luis Camus
