Anyone raced on those Goodyear Blue Streak G-7 tyre

These have been approved for Group S historic racing in Australia, anyone run on them with 6" x 15 wheels.

Considering they are the "same moulds and compound" etc, I'm guessing they wont be much good...... has anyone used them on the road as weekend tyres ?

    Any advice appreciated.

Andy, I have been looking and speaking to Avon and to Michelin about their older style tyres as they are approved also for Group S.

The G7's look similar to both of the above, but I don't know about performance. Also with the 6.00 being the only one we can use, it will be too FAT for our rims. Will be fine for Sc on the larger rims. We need 5.50.

Obviously the later model type tyre patterns and compounds are superior in performance, and hence why they are used, however I think the Michelin TB15's in the right size for our cars could be a really good wet alternative. The feedback I got was they are a great Targa type tyre in wet or dry, but they would not hold up in Dry conditions on a track for very long. Hence my thought they would be good as a wet.

Klaus used Avon's on the older factory cars, and swears by them. Have not seen a Good Year on any of them!!

If you want to try one of them, try the G12, I think they are close to the Avon and the Michelin.

    Got a link Andy?

Alex I'm glad you're speaking with the manufacturers... I really think there is a sleeping market for dusting off the old moulds and doing a few runs of retired tyres (pun intended )

Because they're pretty soft, running them on the street probably isn't a good idea... they'll pick up every loose thing they run over and toss it up in the wheelwells. I'm running a 914/6GT on 7 & 8s with 5.50 & 6.00 x 15 G7 Bluestreak Sportscar Specials in historic, and though it took a few races to adjust to bias-ply, now I much prefer them to radials. They cycle really well, once at temp they're predictable, stable and provide excellent grip.

A little more sensitive to tire pressure changes (at least in my limited experience) but when hot and dialed in feel terrific.

Naturally you have an Australian source, but for basic info here's Sasco's list for compound and dimension specs:

Yup, vintage looks with more than decent grip.

Russ, can they be flipped to hide the white lettering?
