    Steering rack evaluation and repair?

    Hi to all,

I am continuing the sporadic restoration of my 1970 911E. Yesterday I removed the steering rack from the tub. If I correctly remember right, the steering was fine when I last drove the car in 1980. What is the procedure for repair / restoration of the rack? Everything appears to look OK. The rubber boots are in excellent shape without tears or holes.

    Thanks.

    Rick

You can disassemble it and grease the rack/pinion interface and replace the pinion bearings if you want... Its not difficult but often unnecessary unless you have a problem.
