    horn contact pin question/issue

The first in a series of autumn troubleshooting questions and issues! I recently got my steering wheel restored and when I went to go and put it back on it seems that the horn pad triggers the horn upon being immediately installed. I noticed that the contact pin sticks out a bit higher than it should- the question is should the pin's plastic lip be flush with the metal or should it sit higher than the hole as pictured? I don't recall how it sat when I removed it- any info/advice would be appreciated. I do know that it will not go down any further- the way it sits in the pic is as far as it goes without sounding the horn.

    Thanks!

Is the contact shown the original? Or has it been replaced? There are two different length contact pins available.

I'm going through the same problem at the moment, except mine sounds without the pin, so I'm thinking my problem is the earth.

The pin should sit lower. If it's sounding with the pad, it can be the rubber cup, or the backing plate on the pad it's self.

It should be a simple closed circuit system. Having said that I'm off to the garage soon to try and work mine out.

I'll post my findings, incase it helps.

As Tony stated, the pin should be flush. The circuit is activated by switching the Br/W to the Brown ground wire to complete the circuit to the relay. I had an issue of the horn sounding when I would turn the wheel and it was due to the screws being loose on the back of the horn pad.
