    Rear 7x15 Fuchs optional on 1972 S ?

    Hey all,
I'm a new member but long time Porsche owner. I'm trying to prepare my S for vintage racing and was wondering if anyone could tell me if 7x15 Fuchs could have been an option for the rear of the 1972 911S? I've seen several books that do not mention this, but one book that does. I think they were not an option until 1973, but I want to be sure...
    thanks for your help...

    Mitch

I have seen two '71 cars with "claimed" orig 7" wheels. One of the cars is my '71E but I have not pulled a wheel to check the date codes...maybe I'll pull it off the car stacker and check it this week.

Mitch, I just looked in my '72/'73 PET and the 911.361.020.11 Fuchs 7Jx15 are only listed for the Carrera RS. But I have two Fuchs 7Jx15 rims date coded "6 72". Don't know if they were produced for the upcoming RS or for motorsport purposes. Maybe Harvey W knows the answer.

Tomlin, thanks for taking a look. In most of the books I have, they also say the 7x15s were for the RS...but in one, it lists them as options. I wonder if they were part of the ST option list? More research to do. Thanks again....

If the parts were available the factory would add just about anything an owner requested. Even if it was not on the official option list. I had a friend in France who got the factory to put 7's and a ducktail on a 72E. Back in those days it was Werk 1 not special wishes.

Yes they were left the factory with 7's and 9's for 1972 ST unless specified otherwise

So David, you think the 7x15 were in fact available for the 1972 cars? I was just told that, as Tomlin said, a wheel stamped "6 72" would have been available for a 1972 911S, but if the wheel was stamped "8 72" then it likely ended up on the 1973 cars....
Anyone have any thoughts on this theory.....
    thanks.....

Well certainly a wheel stamped 8/72 would NOT have been on a 72 car, 6/72 could still have easily been on the early 73 production cars however
if some were left over in stock

    Clyde,
I think you are right... 6/72 could certainly have found its way from the parts bin onto a 1973 car, but do you think, as David said, a 7x15 made in June could have been an option for a 1972 car?
    thanks,
    M
