    round plugs on floor pan

    Hi to all,

What is the purpose of the round plugs on the floor pan? My 1970 911 E has many of these: about two inches in diameter, and attached using a glue or putty material rather than welded. I know that the ridges formed into the floor provide strength, but I cannot figure out what the plugs do. As I am repairing / patching rust holes in the floor, can I just weld these plugs in? Or, should I just re-seal them with a gasket material?

    Thanks.

    Rick

They are just to cover up the alignment slots cut in the floor. The slots were used during assembly to align the floor with the chassis jigs. Why not just put them back with some caulk or RTV, like they were originally?

I was thinking that since the pan is rusty, welding the holes may add strength???

If the pan is rusty, fix the rust. The holes are sealed with Wuerth seam sealer and then covered with schutz.

I think that is the correct answer.
