Question Dated rims and car production date

    Hi Guys,

First post jitters! Well this sure is a great forum! I've been lurking a bit and finally had something to ask to break the ice.

I did a bit of searching here and didn't find anything on my query. If there is info somewhere on here, I apologize.

What rim dates are an acceptable original match to a car relative to its production date (AKA birth date) for an early 911? With your answer, please clarify if the rims should have the same exact month, or if a month or 2 difference on each rim is normal.

The consensus, so I understand with the 356 world, is that original matching rims can be dated be up to 2 months prior to the car's birthdate (Month/Year) and all should be stamped with the same month. I assume this should be the same with the 911 but I thought I'd ask.

    Thanks in advance!

    Bonzer5,

My car is per the CoA information built in December 1971 and have 10/71 dated wheels. I suppose it is pretty much consensus now that there was a difference in a month or two in actual build date and the date on the CoA. Member Davep have researched this quite well I think.

Edit: In line with what Harvey says below, my spare wheel is dated 09/71.

I have found 0 to 3 months. Most are the 1 to 2 months as said by tomlin.
I have seen the four on the ground mixed a month...
The spare may be earlier as they were taken from a different stack.
Some 73RSs have much more date difference in the rear 7s.
Just to be picky they are wheels not rims. Rims are a part of a wheel...
