    1971 E clutch kit

Looking to buy a new clutch kit for my 71E but the numbers on the plate that came out of it is no longer available. I can't seem to find an alternative, so can anybody help me out as there seems to be some conflicting kits out there. Thanks.

The one that's no longer available...

He's correct; the original 2.2 plate is technically obsolete. Best suitable replacement is the aluminum 2.4/2.7 sport plate.
Make sure you replace the pivot ball with an upgraded one while you're in there.

All aluminum except for the fingers. I just rebuilt my trans and plan to reuse this.

RobR. That's the beast. Exactly the same numbers as my old one. I have heard that the 2.2E can be fitted with a 2.4T/E but I'd like to know from someone that has done this from experience.

    See post #3.

2.4/2.7 is available in alum or steel. Would recommend alum for small motor like 2.2.

    Frank,

Would the aluminum sport pressure plate put additional stress on the pivot ball? Any increased pedal effort?

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
If anything the steel one would concern me more because of the extra rotating mass. You won't notice any added pedal pressure with the alum 915 plate.

When Sachs discontinued the 2.2 plates about 10 years ago and we started using the 915 plates we had a few pivot ball failures. Ever since that time we automatically upgraded the ball on every clutch job. No problems since.

Is it possible to rebuild the factory original aluminum pressure plate? Does anyone know a good rebuilder?
