    Cleaning spark plugs

I removed my sooty spark plugs from my motor and will buy newer plugs once I determine which type is best for a street used 2.4S with MFI, but until then I'd like to clean them - reinstall to drive the car to the repair shop . The MFI pump Is running too rich.
Can I soak the plugs in carb cleaner for a few hours?

    Carefully wire brush them.

Set the gap while you're at it, if you know the original gap of course...

Burn them! Oxy Acetylene works fine, and maybe LPG

Rather than take the risk of having fine blasting residue in the cylinder, just throw them away and buy new.

    Thanks guys.
So I take it that soaking a plugs in carb cleaner will not damage them. I used a toothbrush and they came out looking okay. I checked the gap and all are at 22-24 (fit my smallest gap tool wire loop).

I'd like to think the plugs are still useable with only 2600 miles on them, just to drive it to the shop. I'll ask to have them replaced.

I would dial in the MFI and get new ones - if you need them to get to the shop - use a wire brush and then blow them out with air compressor

Throw in garbage and buy NGK BP7ES for $2.19 each. Install and enjoy. When those get dirty, throw THEM in the garbage and repeat.
