Foamed rim steering wheel for 73S: standard or option?

Today I had the opportunity to see a friend's NOS and rare foamed rim steering wheel, with a build date of 5/73. Code 911.347.082.00.
In the shop there was also a very original 73S, with its (supposedly) original foamed rim steering wheel.
I thought that S models had the leather rim one, was it an option for 73S? did it depend from markets?
The period parts catalogue would point towards the leather one being standard on the S and the ebonite one on T and E, so when was used the foamed rim one?

    Thank you

Foam standard on at least US models in 73.

Andrea I think we have discussed this same thing on my Italian 73S which is a stripper. No extras but for an aux webasto switch and harness and tartan seats. My car has a foam steering wheel dated 10/72. The car matriculated through Varese in 11/72. Delcar. I thought that it was an effort to keep the price down on stripper cars, thinking the leather wheel would cost more adding to the bottom line. I am sure it is the original wheel and has the proper date. BTW mine is so well done you would be hard pressed to tell it was foam just from looking at it.
