    Chinese pistons and cylinders

Anybody used these, or have good info as to their quality? QSC, NPR, etc? I see that there are now a lot of options from 80 to 86 mm, nikasils, cast iron, birals. I remember that a few west coast engine builders were participating in their development - I'd like a bit of reassurance before I spring for a set.

Not to sound like an isolationist, but the words "China" and "quality" do not go, or belong in, the same paragraph. Just my opinion.

I would have to disagree... China today is very different than China 10 years ago... Haven't tried the products mentioned here though...

The cost of a full rebuild is so high I would only use the best parts available, IMHO.

I remember a thread or two over on pelican talking about a rebuild using QSC. Turned into a very heated debate IIRC. Im with Rob ... The cost aspect to maybe save a few $$ on sub par parts isnt worth the effort or risk.

Agree... in my post I just meant that because something is made in China, doesn't mean it is bad quality...

Interesting reading. I was hoping to find a few people who've actually installed some of this stuff. I'm normally do or die with Mahle, but this is an extremely low mile, low stress engine I'm building for one particular car; 500 - 1000 miles a year, shows and easy Sunday drives

In the one thread the OP had used the QSC on his mag cased 2.7. He has been very happy with them from what I took. He also did some crazy mods for heat dissipation in reinventing the 911 engine wheel. Once you get past the chest beating and personal banter there is some good information. There does seem to be a bit of QC issues. Not that some big companies havent had those either in the recent past ie Carrillo. One doesnt expect that when you pay the premium price.
