I just bought a set that has surface rusts an needed restoration as well. It will go to a local powder coater for bead blasting and a semi-gloss coat.

Yes, I've thought about doing that way over here in Houston. How are you going to bring the clamp mechanism back to life?

I'll replate them myself, in clear and yellow zinc.

Powder coat will not be A++
It'll be pretty but the coating thickness is unavoidable.
    You will loose the welding/stamping.

I plated my clips with the Eastwood platting kit. They came out looking very good. I powder coated the body as was mentioned.

I just finished mine, if you ask them to go thin on the powder coat you can maintain most of the details.

I replated all the hardware, new seals from Porsche, and the flame trap at the back is still available new from them also.

Have it painted. The powder coat can be nice but if you chip it in the future it can't be touched up and is a nightmare to remove and redo.

Agreed on have it painted. It will look less coated and more oem.

As Harvey said, powder coating is not A++ for resto. Powder will look nice though, just not original.
Have it blasted and painted then get the clips plated. It usually makes the most sense to generate a larger batch order for plating. You could post an ad asking if anyone is sending things out to the plater that you could join in on.
