Last Sunday Chris Tallon and I took a look at the SCCA National/Regional 'Super Weekend' at CA. Speedway....... I haven't been to a SCCA race (except for a couple of hours at a Northern Cal. regional over 10 years ago) since the early 80's.

Chris T. 'trying on' a Formula Mazda .......... ;)
Great day at the races... And I even saw a couple of guys from the 'old days' still make'n it happen... ;)
- Wolfgang Maike (a name you don't forget over the load speaker) used to drive killer Porsches back in the seventies... a particular bad-ass 914-6 comes to mind. Now drives (I guess for years) and wins in a GT3 Toyota. When I asked "Wolfgang Maike of the '70's?" he said in his German accent "Yeah, yeah... I sould have my head examined"... :D I think Wolfgang is about about seventy.
- Andy Porterfield The same guy that's been making and selling brake pads for what seems to be 100 years. Andy has never quit!!!!
He was driving his 800HP tube chassis, "Camaro" GT1.............. I think Andy is over eighty.......... :)
...... and so it goes
Cheers
Andy is 81!
Well there'ya'go ... thanks JeffQuote:
Andy is 81!
In Andy's 30 min. race he went from last to 4th.
Then it seemed the car or Andy or both got tired ..... but GREAT to watch while they lasted....... ;)
I think his brakes went out :D
Great post Chuck.
I always try to get to Lime Rock when I'm home and there are SCCA races going on - always fun and interesting.
I regret to inform the community of the passing of Andy Porterfield last Tuesday........
One of the all time fast gays and good guys... and made GREAT brake pads forever.......
Glad I took these pics last January .........
R.I.P. Andy

I used a lot of his brake pads while I raced. Thank you to Andy for making my race car do the most important thing a race car should do: STOP!
Why are all the people of my generation dying off,,,this is getting scarey!
