Features on early MY 1966 cars that changed during fall 1965
I think several threads here have been addressing this partially, but feel we could gain more insight by consolidating the knowledge here in 1 thread. We did so for early 1965 changes and that turned out to be successful for many. I am not going to coordinate all the knowledge in a spreadsheet and happily leave that to one of the people owning such cars, but I will be following and adding to this thread for sure.
Now, off the cuff:
- change to adjustable struts
- change washer bag from fender to front
- change ID from front of smugglers box to font slam panel (simultaneous to changing the front slam panel right hand side)
- abandon wedged door frame
- abandon 4 screw horn grills
- change heating pipe rear arch from running below the axle mount to above (recently found by Moito)
- abandon bracket on the edge of the rear wheel arch to the floor (recently found by Moito, probably used for manufacturing purposes till then)
- change steering wheel from alu to steel
- change Solex carbs to Weber 40
- abandon cam shaft centre lubes
- abandon double Pierburg (was the electrical Bendix pump changed at the same moment?)
- change windscreen wipers from right resting position to left resting position
What about
- front fender horns changes to plastic backsides
- change to big ignition key washer
- carpeting in luggage room and interior
- change from open to flat door pockets
- changed window crank mechanism from middle screws to far end corner screws
- changed door cranks to the ones with plastic middle piece
- leather shift mob change to rubber
- adding emergency lights
- change high rim back seats to low back seats
- change of welded in bucket for the engine lid release knob into door column integrated indent
- change from 4.5 to standard 5.5 inch wheels
- introduction egg shaped headrests replacing the type 356
Pls confirm or deny and let us know yr chassis numbers, post pics and have fun. Lets breed our global half-baked knowledge into something useful
