retro roof rack
can anyone offer any help here?
considering doing a tour of the alps later this year in a 69T and to cut a long story short, thought it would be useful and look fantastic to get a period roof rack.
i've seen some pics somewhere of a mid 60s 911 with one but i cant remember where. i've googled pictures but cant seem to find any reference.
has anyone got one? or know where to get them if they exist? and if they do are they reallllyyyyy expensive?
thanks in advance.

Hi Paul,
The whole catalogue of optional stuff is here:
http://www.911t.org/options/default.htm
The roof rack is at pg. 25.
Haven´t seen one for a long time. Ebay is probably the most likely place it can turn up.

thanks thomas,
thats the baby i was looking for - thanks. i'll have a scout around on ebay.
i just found this picture of one that was for sale on pelican ages ago - called an 'AMCO', but it hasnt got a rear support though which could be annoying and not sure if its period correct...

The AMCO rack is definitely period correct, I've got a copy of the Amco ad somewhere that showed all of their stuff on an early 911. It's reasonably close to the factory rack in appearance as well.
By the way, I just did an old search, and as it turns out I'm the guy who bought "that" rack! It actually does have a rear support, perhaps you're looking at the rack the wrong way?

roof rack
Paul,
As suggested, ebay ... & also check the Pelican "for sale" site. I bought an NOS one of these about 3 1/2 yeas ago. Cost $275 then, so it's anyone's guess what you'll pay today (I thought it was a good deal then - saw a few others about at that time for $400 +) I even got the packing box it came in.
Amco brand & as noted, featured in the dealer option accessories catalog.
It looks pretty cool & practical. I'll fit it to the car & post a pix in the next couple of days - time & weather permitting. (it's winter here in NZ = rain)
If you are looking for a ski rack like the one posted - I recall Jim at EASY www.easypor.com in San Francisco had one hanging up on the wall. Not sure if for sale. Worth a try!

i found one in the US but the shipping is more than the item!

Paul, for large, light items (like front fiberglass bumpers, oil lines and such) try Greyhound express. You have to go to the depot to ship and pick up, but they have been reasonable ($30-$50) and have shown care in transit. 4 to 5 days coast to coast, typical 3 days from a coast to the midwest. If you get the UPS "oversize blues" give them a try.
