CS 928 S4 Clubsport
928 S4 "Leichtbau" (1986)928 S4 CS "Club Sport" (1988)
(By Wim Schepers )
This copy is a one-off performance of a 928 S4 Clubsport prototype. The copy was intended for one of Porsche's top drivers of that time (1988), Hans Joachim Stuck (D).
The mounted transmission is a forerunner of today's PDK transmission. It is a dual-clutch gearbox derived from the Porsche 962 Group C competition models.
On the outside / copy was recognizable by the red sticker with the text "PDK" that surrounds the term "Porsche Doppel Kupplung GETRAG". The German "GETRAG Getriebe-und Zahnradfarbik" to date is a supplier of transmissions for Porsche ( http://www.getrag.com ).
Hans Joachim Stuck was not the only top rider a prototype Porsche 928 Club Sport was offered. Also Derek Bell (GB), Jochen Mass (D) and Bob Wollek (B) could have a prototype, but with an "ordinary" five-speed gearbox.
Partly based on the driving experience through these four drivers, the 928 S4 Clubsport officially introduced. A total of 71 copies of the Clubsport produced.

A couple more "wonder where they are now 928s": The one that ran in the Daytona 24 hrs in 1984, driven by Bob Hagestad, Vic Elford, and Richard Atwood. It finished 15th overall and didn't race again afaik. The other 928 is the one that Al Holbert ran at Bonneville to set a speed record around that time....Hagestad is a good friend of mine, is now 80 yrs. old and tells the story that Porsche was wanting to show the world how fast and reliable the 928 was; so, they flew one over for them to race under Brumos banner. Maybe it is in the Brumos stable, but who knows...
The Daytona car is maybe in the Brumos stable or at the Porsche museum. I don't know yet.
But the Bonneville S4 is now owned by a rennlist member.
You can see it here:

I remember seeing the Bonneville S4 when it was a white car and used as a Safety Vehicle with a red cross on it, during races at Elkhart Lake, WI.
It wore a very tacky and rough paint coat, and showed the effects of being used as just another 'race car';
I have some 35 mm film of it somewhere at another location...... along with the Paul Newman signed race tire off his Nissan he ran that weekend, given to me by the crew in the pits for some minor helping out during an incident of which I cannot even recall anymore.
Still have the tire too.....:)
