Is anyone familiar with these Reproduction LWB Door Pockets .... Fit? Finish? Quality?
Try Lakewell.com I think they are about $980 + shipping. The seem to make them for retailers.
I bought a set and wasn't satisfied. I ended up returning them. Everything was just a little off - fit, finish, quality. They just looked like repros. I think you'll be much happier with a set of good originals.
Other sources in US?
Someone needs to make these out of ABS instead of fiberglass or cardboard. Just as with the 74 and on pockets, I bought some fiberglass ones that I didn't bother to use, I then found some made of ABS, they have been on my car for 7 years and are still perfect. Once covered indistinguishable from originals.
Cardboard absorbs moisture and just warps, like the originals. Fiberglass is too imprecise.
I agree. If you can get the ABS pockets professionally recovered, flocked on the inside, and use correct vinyl and original aluminum trim, that'd be an interesting option.
FYI The ones that sierra madre , that carpoint , that lakewell , that porsche etc sells.. they are made of ABS ...

All the same , same source ,
minor improvements over the time - minor

The ones I've seen say fiberglass.
FYI the ABS pockets I have are 74 type pockets. I got them from a guy in Florida, 60slincolns@tampabay.rr.com
I sent him some black utrasuede for the lining. He does very nice work.
from the Lakewell site:
The door pockets have a fiberglass rather than cardboard substructure, which guarantees durable structural integrity and water resistance.
hi David ,
I am just telling for F model , and what you can get today, from the source“s I mention , those are made of ABS
Marek
Marek, those are the ones I'm talking about.. from the Lakewell description for F type pockets:
"Complete set of 4 door pockets for Porsche 911 ’69-‘73, remanufactured to exact OEM specifications. The kit includes 2 map pockets (front) and 2 tilting pockets (rear), all beautifully engineered and finished to a very high quality. A must to finish your 100-point restoration.
Our ready-to-install door pockets are probably the best you can buy for originality and fit. The tool to mould and cast the door pockets was developed using 3-D scanning on NOS door pockets. The door pockets have a fiberglass rather than cardboard substructure, "
So are they FG or ABS?
here are the 74-94 pockets in ABS. They all mount the same way with small variations. Coverings vary by year.
This is who I bought them from and he recovered to how I wanted.
Obviously the 73 and earlier pockets are different. I don't understand how Marek is so sure they are ABS yet the retailers state FG.

I have the same issue raising it head for my restoration. The pockets I have need a lot of work as not only are they warped but the metal trim is off.
I was looking at some new old stock ones but that would work out about £1800 for a complete set.
$2700 is a lot to pay for a very flawed design. The pocket was exposed to moisture from the door, the bungee cords failed, the pockets warped, the trim came loose, etc. Unless you are going to concours the car.
The factory got it right with the 74 design, as that same basic design lasted for the next 20 years. I have noticed my 91 pockets are plastic and not cardboard as on the earlier models, was the change made on the 964 or earlier?
At $1,100 shipped to USA (current conversion rate) for all 4 including the installation kit, these look pretty nice to me....
Installed...
Yes, those Lakewell pockets were the pockets I commented on earlier. I would say "pretty good" is about right. But they're not going to be confused with the real thing by anyone. In my experience, the Lakewell stuff is curiously hit and miss. The dashes, Targa repair kits, carpets, and sport set covers, have all been great. As good as it gets (especially the dashes). But the door pockets and garnish rails are not nearly as nice. And the armrests being sold by them (and others) are terrible.
So, two of my choices are keep the original and correct pockets that are warped and also have scratched up bright trim, or convert to these repops which may not be concourse correct but look much more presentable than the originals currently in my car.
Speaking of the handle-less drivers side does anyone know where I could find one for a RHD car?
Einmalig had some.
Who did you have do them? I sent a set of trim to King of Trim and they came back perfect.
How long ago was this? Even the cardboard door pockets should last years, probably decades, before warping (absent owner abuse like getting them wet or allowing the car to live in a too damp or perhaps too warm environment). Maybe longer. I own three very original early cars that were all well taken car of. All three of them still wear original door pockets in excellent shape.
OE door pockets not only warp in the horizontal plane, they can also sag at the bottom, on the hinge areas. I use a vegetable steamer to take care of the big distortions, but you'd have to make some kind of a fixture to restore the bottoms. The main effect of the sagging is that the door pockets will no longer fit tightly against the armrests...
I've seen some fiberglass, ABS, and even steel reproductions, but so far I've always been able to find acceptable/restorable originals.
the new Porsche Classic site for parts ( mentioned somewhere here ) offers door pockets and arm rests for the "F" series as OEM ... they are priced individually... are the repro mentioned here sold as set ?
I agree get originals and restore. This isn't rocket science. A close match for the vinyl should be easy to get. Also SM sells the alu trim in a kit. $175 ea side. I have not tried it as I only need one piece but have heard it looks ok. Late reviews on KOT are not good.
If you can get originals back to shape or find good used, try the following. Strip the pockets bare of all materials. Get some good 24hr epoxy that cures slightly flexible not brittle. Or, play with the amount of hardener and try a few test batches. You want a little flexibility. Then mix in a metal container. Heat the container with a heat gun so that the epoxy is the consistency of water, very warm or hot. Pour a little at a time in the pocket and rub in quickly with a rag. The hot thinned epoxy will penetrate the cardboard easily. The color will change and look wet, Do not over do it but just enough to impregnate the cardboard not a thick coating. It helps if you preheat the cardboard. I have done this on the cardboard fold outs several times with good results. The epoxy adds just enough support that they have not warped or sagged. It adds a little weight but not so much that it interferes with the function. When done it should look wet and smooth not gooey or coated. Let cure and rebuild to spec.
Also, I just roll down the window an inch or two and close with the vent/window frame. Works every time. Heh Heh.
i have an NOS passenger side fold out if you go that route.
Yes. But I cannot blow cover. Two very experienced restorers that I visited just yesterday. They will not use KOT of late for workmanship reasons. I saw one piece for one of my cars that they (KOT) did. It would not pass muster. I'm going repro for that application.
KOT will never get another piece from me after losing a door pocket top trim.
What is the opinion on the door pockets offered by Porsche? Are they cardboard material?
Give the high cost of replacements owners need some DIY guide to restoring their own pockets. Mine came with 4 additional pockets of various issues. How to reflock the inside of the pockets?
The Porsche Classic pockets are very nice. I believe they're still cardboard but could be wrong.
I've used this flocking system for years and I'm very happy with it.

Also, the Sierra Madre door pocket trim kit are decent or restore the mangled original ones?
