I have tons (literally) of 356 stuff including engines, parts, accessories, NOS Carrera 2 and B/C owners manuals, and tools.
Seeing prices all over the place on ebay and 356 Registry. Would love knowledgable opinions on how best to advertise. Not interested in squeezing every last dollar out of it.

I use 356R classifieds($35 to join and advertise), thesamba, and occasionally ebay when looking for parts. Maybe Jim at EASY would take the whole lot off your hands.

There's probably 7 motors, 15 eng cases, hoards of 40P11's, 32NDIX's, 5 transaxles, drum brake sets, disc brake sets, NOS turn signals, taillights, manuals, tools, and LOTS of misc.

When I cleared out my 356 cache about 10 years ago, it went on eBay starting at .99 each with no reserve. The results were surprising. Probably not as good as having Jim handle everything for you, but the next best thing to trying to figure out a price for each item.
The 99cent strategy works but not this time of year. We normally don't sell anything from Thanksgiving until February, too many people are doing holiday stuff and not buying. Also, the 99cent plan might not work for Frank's stash since it sounds like he has some big heavy stuff like gearboxes, those take longer to sell. Smalls work well for 99cents because they are easily shipped all over the world, gearboxes, not so much.Quote:

Frank….a lot of us 356'rs are looking for our original motors/cases. Can you post the serial numbers either here or on the 356 Registry site???

Actually the speedos and tach all have 55/56 dates on them.
This is the extent of my 4 cam stuff as far as I know. I'm thinking around $12k for all of the above parts. Am I close?
I normally sell the chuck first; loin later but for convenience I'm inclined to go this route for now. When these parts are gone I'll post the next batch.

I shouldn't tell you that but it might be rarer and much more desirable than a 4 cam one... Check plactic cars... =)
Sure it might be a mix since the date stamp is a bit early, but the 906 and the 910 ones have a longer bowl than the regular 4 cams ones.
Tell me the number of discs.
A regular 4 cam one can be found for something as 500 usd.

The spin on filter kind of sucks, since you're missing 3/4 of the parts. BUT, there are some 356 folks who may be interested. There was even a guy in the US who did some repops with exactly the same set up to adapt a spin on filter, since the strainer filters are a PITA to find (and expensive, like 2-300€ a set). Might be worth putting an add on the 356 registry. if you find the right guy, you can still ask 500 I think.
Sold a couple of NOS short ones for something like 800€ each 3 to 4 yrs ago.

A man who still has 95% of a rare parts stash after two years of saying it's for sale, is a man who isn't very serious about selling it. You are probably more apt to setting up a museum or shrine in the corner of your place. If you are serious about selling, you will need to change your attitude/pricing, if not I would start shopping for velvet ropes and glass cases.Quote:

Selling dinosaur 356 parts for what... 30-40k? is not exactly on my priority list.
It might help you decide if you sat down and did the math. Using your $40000, you would have to have 40 items worth $1000 each, or 400 items worth $100 each. So if you factor in the 30-40% bulk discount that means you would have to have about $55,000 worth of parts. So that's 55 items that are worth at least $1000 each, or 550 items worth $100 or more. So you would have to say you had $50,000-60,000 worth of parts retail to even get to the $30,000-40,000 you said you wouldn't take. Also, keep in mind a lot of the stuff is not fast sellers. I currently have about 30 motor and probably quadruple that in cases and 3rd pieces. I sell about 5-10 such pieces a year, so if you have "7 motors, 15 eng cases" expect someone who is in the business to not give you top dollar, since to a guy like me it won't be flying off the shelves. Luckily, I'm 44, so like Mick Jagger, I've got time on my side, but you still have to factor these kinds of things in when you're buying.Quote:
